Spring Fever is in the Air!

Spring Fever is in the Air!

You can feel it—spring is waking up the world! I just got a reminder to drive carefully this evening because amphibians are crossing the roads and heading to vernal pools. The sound of spring peepers is in full force, and turtles and salamanders are on the move—a sure sign that the season has arrived!

In the West Virginia woods, where we have a cabin, bear warnings are also starting to pop up. It’s time to secure that trash because they’ll be waking up soon! Meanwhile, flowers are blooming, birds are singing, and that irresistible urge to throw open the windows and declutter is kicking in.

As the days get longer and the sun shines brighter, our bodies naturally produce less melatonin—the hormone that regulates sleep. Just like a bear leaving its den, we shake off our winter slumber and suddenly feel a surge of energy!

This newfound motivation often turns into a strong desire to clean, organize, and refresh our spaces. Closets get tackled, shelves get dusted, and that pile of mail from last fall finally gets sorted. The combination of sunshine, fresh air, and extra daylight can transform us into organizing machines!

So, if you find yourself craving a cleaner, more organized space, embrace the spring fever! Make a checklist, put on your favorite tunes, and let that energy flow. Whether it’s rearranging furniture, donating old clothes, or sprucing up your garden, use this momentum to refresh both your home and your mind.

Spring cleaning isn’t just about tidying up—it’s about creating a space that feels light, fresh, and energizing. If you’re ready to harness that spring energy and get organized, let’s chat! I’d love to help you turn that motivation into action.

Happy 1st day of Spring! 🌿✨

  • SUMMERTIME!

    SUMMER IS HERE!

Summer has arrived, bringing long, sunny days and rising temperatures. I know many summer lovers (me included) embrace the warmth after chilly damp winter, but it can also be overwhelming with how fast the heat arrives!  Here are some ideas to beat the heat and stay organized all season long!

    Cool Down Your Home

Keeping your home cool is essential for comfort during these hot months. Here are few ideas to help you keep your home the coolest-

    • Use Blackout Curtains: These can block out the sun’s rays and help maintain a cooler temperature indoors. Close them during the hottest parts of the day. These curtains also help you sleep well at night and keep that 6am sunrise from waking you up!
    • Optimize Fan Use: Place fans strategically to create cross-ventilation. You can also use a bowl of ice in front of a fan for an extra cooling hack.
    • Maintain Your Air Conditioner: Clean or replace filters regularly and consider scheduling a professional check-up to ensure it’s running efficiently. Tip: We use vinegar periodically to keep the pipes from getting clogged.

    Stay Hydrated

Hydration is key to beating the heat. Make drinking water a habit and keep it interesting-

    • Infuse Your Water: Add slices of fruits like lemon, lime, blueberries or cucumber, and herbs like mint or basil to your water for a refreshing twist.
    • Keep a Water Bottle Handy: Invest in a good-quality, insulated water bottle to keep your drinks cold for hours. Carry it with you everywhere you go. Mine is part of me! I have my silver 32 oz. Yeti filled with water 24/7 from my car to my bedside table.

    Eat Light and Fresh Meals

Avoiding heavy, hot meals can help you feel cooler and more energized.

    • Salads and Smoothies: Anyone who knows me knows my love of daily smoothies!  I add greens, turmeric, cinnamon, flax seeds, berries and it’s my powerhouse meal.  Fresh fruits and veggies found in smoothies, salads, and light wraps are perfect for summer and great health!
    • Grill Outdoors: Take advantage of the warm weather and cook outside. Grilling keeps the heat out of the kitchen, it’s a fun and social way to enjoy meals too.   I love veggie skewers and corn -You can do more than just burgers and dogs on the grill!

     Plan Summer Activities

Stay active and organized with a summer schedule that includes fun and cooling-off activities.

    • Water Fun: Plan trips to the beach, pool, boating or a local water park. Water activities are a great way to cool down and have fun.
    • Early Morning or Late Evening Exercise: Avoid the midday heat by scheduling outdoor exercise for the cooler parts of the day. If you can jump into a pool after a workout-even better!
    • Indoor Hobbies: Explore hobbies that keep you cool indoors, such as reading, crafting, or trying out new recipes.

    Keep Your Car Cool

Don’t forget about your vehicle – a hot car can be unbearable. How many times have you jumped into your car only to have your back and underside scorched? You begin to sweat profusely before even starting the car-

    • Use Sunshades: Reflective sunshades can significantly reduce the temperature inside your car.
    • Park Smart: Whenever possible, park in shaded areas or garages.
    • Open it up Before Driving: Open windows and doors to let the hot air out, or get the A/C rolling before even getting in.
    • Water bottle: remember your water bottle filled with ice!

    Declutter Your Space

Here’s the organizing pitch!  Summer is the perfect time to declutter and reorganize your living spaces. A tidy home can feel cooler and more relaxing. Plus, you now have an excuse to get out of the heat and into the shade or cool indoors.

    • Sort Through Seasonal Clothes: Pack away winter clothes and bring out your summer wardrobe. Donate or recycle items you no longer need.
    • Rearrange Furniture: Create a more open and airy space by moving furniture around. This can improve air circulation and give your home a fresh look.
    • Clean Up Outdoor Spaces: Clean patios, decks, and balconies. Organize gardening tools and outdoor toys for easy access.

The hot summer days can be hard to handle but with some planning, the heat is easy to beat.  Spend the hottest part of the days indoors or out of the direct sun, and the evenings outdoors grilling out and watching the lightning bugs 

Happy Organizing! Reach out if you could use some help getting your space to the happy haven you desire!

  • Spring Fever Anyone?

    Spring Fever Anyone?

It’s the first day of SPRING! Being from Maryland I’ve flipped a few times on what my favorite time of year is. Summer always jumps out as the easy winner, but lately I’ve been thinking about how much spring represents to me. New beginnings, longer days after the winter. The lovely sound of peepers on my runs, flowers popping up through all of the dull dead leaves green grass, and the urge to clean up and organize my spaces!
Spring may be the best season because it’s a time to begin anew. Smell the flowers, open the windows and enjoy what the new season has given.

It’s time to change the heavy comforter, switch out the flannel sheets, pull forward the warmer weather clothing, open the shades, clean the windows and floors and let the light breeze in.
The sights and sounds, from the emergence of flowers to the chirping of Peepers, evoke a sense of rejuvenation and vitality.

Spring cleaning, can indeed feel like a daunting task, especially if clutter has accumulated over the winter months. However, breaking it down into smaller, manageable tasks can make it more approachable. Starting with one room at a time or focusing on specific areas of clutter can help prevent you from getting overwhelmed.

Additionally, embracing the mindset of decluttering and simplifying can be empowering. Letting go of items that no longer serve a purpose or bring joy can create a sense of lightness and space in your home.

Remember to take breaks, stay hydrated, and reward yourself for each task completed. And as you open the windows to let in the fresh spring air and sunlight, take a moment to appreciate the progress you’ve made and the new energy flowing into your home. Happy spring cleaning!

If you feel you could benefit with some help in the organizational process, please reach out to me! I would love to share some spring fever energy with you and get your spaces ready for the new season.

  • Loving your Spaces

    Loving your Spaces

It’s Valentine’s Day, the day to give flowers, cards, candy, and other little gifts to a special someone. The legend goes, St. Valentine was set to be executed for performing secret marriages, which was forbidden by the emperor.  On his execution day he wrote a goodbye letter to a woman named Julia and signed it “From Your Valentine” beginning the tradition of Valentines Cards.

Speaking of Love!! I would love to share my latest transformations; I call them the Weekend Space Warrior projects! The Transformation of three spaces into comfy, cozy work and relaxation havens. All in a weekend! These spaces turned out sweet as chocolate.

#1 -Warriors slaying the bedroom move– A Beautiful City Townhouse bedroom

Sometimes, less truly is more. This was a move into a new bedroom that has different storage options but also vision in mind, the transition to minimalist is underway.

Gone are the days of excess belongings taking up precious space. Instead, a curated selection of essentials finds their place within the newly streamlined closet. The transition from more to less storage is not just about reducing clutter but embracing a lifestyle of simplicity and mindfulness.

The process involves careful curation and organization. Items are sorted, evaluated, and only the most essential pieces remain. With just one bedroom we can eliminate enough “stuff” to fill quite a few large trash bags. Utilizing storage solutions such as closet containers and bins maximize space without sacrificing functionality. Folding small items to maximize space is essential.

The result? A bedroom and closet transformed into a sanctuary of simplicity. Every item has its place, and clutter was replaced with calm. The transition from more to less storage was not just a physical transformation but a mindset shift towards intentional city living. Can you feel the calm?

#2-Warriors slaying the bedroom turn office challenge -Repurposing a Spare bedroom Space to an Office Oasis and transforming closets to personal storage spaces.

The functionality of our living spaces often dictates our productivity and overall well-being. Yet, the transformation of these spaces doesn’t have to be a daunting task. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity and a vision for what could be, so we began the journey of turning two bedrooms and closets into a harmonious office space, complete with his and hers closets, while still maintaining comfort for guests, and a calming primary bedroom free of clutter.

First and foremost, the transformation began with a plan. It was essential to envision the end goal and strategize how to achieve it. The primary objective was to create an office space that fostered productivity and creativity while still retaining a welcoming atmosphere for guests.

Out went the bulky bed, and in came a sleek desk, strategically positioned to maximize natural light, and minimize distractions. Paired with a comfortable chair, it provides the perfect environment for focused work sessions.

By converting the two large closets into his and hers closets, storage became both practical and stylish. Shelving and organizers transformed the once-cluttered spaces into organized sanctuaries, perfectly tailored to their individual needs. No more digging through piles of clothes to find that one elusive item – everything has its place. And the drawers hold each small item perfectly folded.

But what about guests? A futon, nestled against one wall, now serves as a cozy seating area by day and a comfortable bed by night. Complete with plush pillows and soft blankets stored away until needed, it provides the perfect solution for overnight visitors without compromising on space or style.

The result is a harmonious blend of efficiency and comfort, where work and relaxation coexist. What was once a cluttered bedroom office is now a multifunctional oasis, designed to inspire and invigorate.

With a willingness to think outside the box, any space can be transformed into something truly your own. So, dare to dream, and allow me to help guide you on the journey to creating the perfect space for work, rest, and everything in between.

Happy Valentines to All! If you’re special someone could use the gift of organization-reach out, I’d LOVE to help.

  • Groundhog Day!

    Groundhog Day!

Groundhog Day and Organizing Your House: Breaking the Cycle like Phil!

Have you been to Punxsutawney Pa. to see the famed groundhog make his yearly weather prediction? My sister and a few friends made the trip many years ago and I’ve always gotten a laugh at their quest for fun teen adventures.  As February 2nd approaches, we eagerly await Punxsutawney Phil’s weather forecast and perhaps secretly hope for a little organizational inspiration along the way. Groundhog Day isn’t just about predicting seasons; it’s about breaking free from the repetitive cycle of clutter that haunts our homes like relentless winter weather. So, grab your shovel and let’s dig into how we can tackle clutter with a bit of groundhog humor.

    • Recognizing patterns (repetition)-even the ones we’d like to ignore.  Picture this: just like Phil Connors waking up to the same Sonny & Cher tune every morning at 6am, we stumble upon the same mountain of clutter day after day. It’s like Groundhog Day, but instead of a furry forecaster, it’s a pile of laundry staring us down. Let’s face it; our clutter has a knack for showing up uninvited, much like that one friend who never gets the hint to leave.
    • Learning from experience (reflection) Ever feel like you’re trapped in a clutter-induced time loop? Take a cue from Phil Connors and use those repetitive moments to reflect. Ask yourself the tough questions: Why do I hold onto this broken toaster? What cosmic force keeps multiplying my mismatched socks? Embrace the craziness and channel your inner philosopher (or at least your inner Groundhog Day fan).
    • Embracing Change! It’s time to break out of the clutter cycle like a groundhog bursting out from its dirt burrow, ready to face the world (or at least the mess in the living room). Cue the triumphant music and grab your organizing supplies—it’s time for a clutter intervention! Who needs Punxsutawney Phil when you’ve got the inner power to transform your space?

A few tips for organizing your home this Groundhog Day

    1. Turn decluttering into a game: challenge yourself to find the weirdest item lurking in your junk drawer (spoiler alert: it’s probably a mystery key that unlocks nothing).
    2. Embrace your inner Marie Kondo and thank your possessions for their service before bidding them adieu (even if they’re just a pile of old magazines)
    3. Create a clutter-themed playlist to keep you motivated while you tidy up—how about “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” for conquering that towering pile of laundry?

In conclusion, as we celebrate Groundhog Day, let’s not only look to Punxsutawney Phil for weather forecasts but also take inspiration from Phil Connors’ journey of self-discovery. We can turn Groundhog Day into an opportunity to break free from the cycle of chaos and embrace a more organized—and delightfully freeing—way of life. So, grab your broom (or your furry forecasting friend) and let’s make this Groundhog Day one for the clutter-free history books!

  • Fri-Yay!

    Fri-Yay!

Happy Friday! Friday has ALWAYS been my favorite day of the week.  My love of Fridays began with a 4-day work week when my kids were young.  I cherished the quiet-me time at home that one day a week while the girls were in school, and husband at work.  I’d get in a workout, then home- cranked up the music, made my list of the day’s tasks, and got into it.  Home organizing on a Friday was my way to start the weekend with a fresh and tidy living space. By the time school and work ended, the house was clean, laundry done, fridge cleaned and restocked and ready for the weekend.  Here are some ideas for happy Friday home organizing if you happen to have off today for the snow or just love a Friday re-set as much as I do! Happy FRI-YAY!!

    Freshen up Bedding

Change and freshen up the bedding in bedrooms. Wash comforters if needed, fluff pillows.   I like to start the day by stripping beds and running loads throughout the day while doing other tasks.

    De-Clutter Common Areas

Start by decluttering common areas like the living room and kitchen. Put away items that are out of place and tidy up surfaces.

    Sort and Organize

Take a few minutes to sort through items in different rooms. Organize them based on categories and put them in their designated places.

    Clear Kitchen Countertops

Clear kitchen countertops of unnecessary items. Wipe them down and create a clean and inviting space. I like to clean and put toasters away, blenders and other items not being used every day.

    Check Expiration Dates

Go through the pantry and refrigerator. Check for expired items and dispose of them. Make a note of items you need to restock.

    Organize Entryway

Organize your entryway, clean front door glass, place shoes, coats, and accessories in their designated spots. This sets a welcoming tone when you enter your home.

    Create a Relaxing Space

Designate a corner or space in your home for relaxation. Arrange comfortable seating, get some fresh flowers, diffuse some lavender oil, and create a calming atmosphere.

Organizing your home can be a satisfying and rewarding way to spend your snowy Friday, setting the stage for a more comfortable and enjoyable weekend. Reach out if you need a little help getting to the point where a Friday cleanup is not a massive undertaking! Let’s talk about how to get your space exactly how you want it so your days at home are calm and relaxing.

But what if I told you that there’s a secret society of snow day enthusiasts who have mastered the art of summoning those precious days off from school? Enter the world my girls were part of-spoon-under the pillow, ice cubes in the toilet, inside-out pajamas, and the grand tradition of making the most of a surprise day off.

The morning sun rises to reveal a winter wonderland outside the window. If you are my kids, you wake up look at the clock and YES!!!! (I got to sleep in!) The ice cubes, spoon and inside-out pajamas have worked their magic! The cheers, and the sweet taste of victory for our young weather wizards.

  • It’s Quitters Day, Blame your Socks!

Hi there, fellow goal-setters and resolution enthusiasts! As we find ourselves here on Quitters Day, that notorious 2nd Friday in January when 80% of us tend to hit the snooze button on our New Year’s Resolutions, I’m here to tell you not to stress, you aren’t to blame for this!  I believe your quitter socks might be the true culprits behind your abandoned aspirations. Let’s get you back on track starting with those socks!

You were all pumped up on New Year’s Day, ready to conquer the world, organize your life, and become the superhero version of yourself. You had your goals, your plans, and your determination all neatly lined up. But what was that lurking in your drawer? Ah, the treacherous quitter socks. You put them on not knowing those socks were going to kick off the chain of events that lead us to quitters day.  You laced up, started the run and those darn socks ended your 2024 goals.

Yes, those socks that have lost their sole purpose by sneaking down below your heel and bunching up around the arch of your foot- they are just hanging around, refusing to be a part of your newfound discipline. It’s time to blame Quitters Day on the real quitters – your socks!

Let’s turn Quitters Day into a sock-revolution. Here’s your step-by-step guide to reclaiming your goals starting with kicking those quitter socks to the curb:

    1. The Sock Intervention: Start by gathering all your socks and lay them out on the bed. Have a heart-to-heart conversation with each pair, questioning their commitment to your goals. Any signs of weakness? Toss ’em into the quitter pile.

    2. The Quitter Sock Bonfire: Don’t wait until your Marina has its annual Burning of the Socks in March, gather all your quitter socks now and create a ceremonial bonfire. Watch as they burn away all the negative energy they’ve been holding onto. Dance around the flames, celebrating the liberation of your goals.

Credit: Burning of the socks-Annapolis Gov.Hogan enthusiastically tosses his socks in

    3. Organizing Goals, One Sock at a Time: Now that you’ve purged the quitter socks, and mix-matched messes, channel that newfound energy into organizing your life. Create a sock drawer hierarchy – match um, fold them into three and place the workout socks front and center, the everyday champions in the middle, and the rest towards the back.

    4. Exercise Goals Sans Quitters: With those socks out of the way, your exercise goals are about to get a major upgrade. No more excuses from those sneaky, saggy socks that used to sabotage your workouts. Lace up your shoes and hit the gym or get out for your run with confidence! Let’s make Quitters Day mean something else!

    5. The Victory Strut: As you accomplish your goals without the hindrance of those socks, indulge in the victory strut. Strut around your house, proudly displaying your organized sock drawer and the newfound discipline that has triumphed over Quitters Day.

Transform the narrative, blame it on the quitter socks, and emerge victorious in your quest for self-improvement. Remember, it’s not about the day but about the socks you choose to wear on that day!

Don’t be a quitter today, reach out to me if you need a little help with your pile of socks or any other part of your sacred spaces!

    Pantry Potential

    Pantry Potential-

5 ways to create an organized, stocked, and visually appealing pantry

I recently had the pleasant task of organizing my new pantry in our Florida home.  I love empty spaces that just brim with ideas and potential.  I used an easy to follow 5-step process to organize the pantry so my husband Dan can easily locate a snack before a work call, and I can quickly see what we need to restock for our upcoming visit from the kids.  We like to plan meals for the week and having the pantry organized helps with grocery shopping too.  We all know how annoying it is when you go to the store, spend a ton of money then come home to 3 boxes of the same thing hidden in the back of the pantry.  If it’s time to start over or refresh your pantry, try these 5 steps!

    • Start fresh-Completely empty the pantry
      • Clean the shelves and floor.  Get all the sticky syrup or flour dust cleaned up.
      • Throw away all items past their expiration date.  Look at each item.
    • Organize by Categories
      • Categorize your items such as grains, snacks, spices, baking ingredients, canned goods
      • Use clear containers or bins to group items together and label them.
      • Arrange all items logically so that frequently used items are easily accessible.
    • Maximize Vertical Space
      • Install or move shelves up/down.  Use organizers to make use of vertical space.
      • Consider adding adjustable shelves if needed
      • Use the back of the panty door if applicable by adding hooks or organizers for small items such as spices or kitchen tools.
    • Invest in Storage Solutions
      • There are so many storage solutions out there.  From the container store to amazon to the dollar tree you can maximize your pantry potential.  Stackable containers, baskets and my personal favorite,  lazy Susans can make the most of your space.
      • Clear containers are great for easily identifying the contents and monitoring stock levels.
      • Consider sliding drawers or pull forward shelves for deeper pantry spaces.
    • Use the FIFO system (First in, First Out)
      • Implement a FIFO system to ensure older items are used first.  Place newer purchases at the back of the pantry and older items towards the front.
      • Regularly check expiration dates and rotate stock to minimize food waste and missed expiration dates.
    • Create a meal planner space
      • Create a place near or in your pantry for a whiteboard or chalkboard and jot down grocery needs or weekly meal plans.
      • Keep a list of staple items you frequently use so you can quickly take inventory and make shopping lists.
      • Use your weekly meal plan to jot down spices or ingredients needed for meals.

I hope this 5-step system helps you create the pantry of your dreams.  If you’d like help with this process, or just have it done for you, reach out! Your pantry nightmare is my pantry dream.

    Happy Organizing!

  • Happy New Year!

🌟 Exciting News! Embracing a New Chapter in 2024! 🌟

👋 Hey friends and family! As we dive into the New Year with a burst of fresh energy and possibilities, I’m thrilled to share some big news and embark on a new adventure! ✨

After an incredible journey in multi-location retail buying and merchandising, owning my own retail store, and most recently, managing Airbnb properties, I’ve decided to jump into a passion that has always been close to my heart—organizing! 🗂️✨

For those who’ve been following my journey, you know that my heart beats for a few key things – being a lover of yoga, running, biking, and swimming, entertaining in my home 🏡, enjoying long walks (with my dog Chelsea by my side) that lead to new discoveries, and nothing gives me more joy than having a haven to savor an awakening coffee or a delightful glass of wine. Here’s to a year where I get to weave these threads together, giving life to spaces that resonate with warmth, functionality, and style! 🎉💚

And speaking of threads, I want to share a deeply personal note. In 2019, I faced the unimaginable loss of my husband to cancer. It was a journey of sorrow, resilience, and ultimately, hope. Life has a way of surprising us, and in this beautiful journey, I found a second chance at love – a kindred spirit who not only understands the depths of loss having lost his wife but has been my biggest advocate in pursuing this new career. 🌟💖

This New Year is not just about resolutions; it’s about embracing the unexpected, finding joy in the little moments, and cherishing the love that comes our way. 🥂💕

Introducing my new venture: [Jenny’s Organized Spaces] 🏡💫 I’m beyond excited to channel my skills and experiences into helping others declutter, organize, and create spaces that truly reflect their unique style and functionality.

Whether it’s transforming your home, office, or any space in between, or help with organizing a move, I’m here to bring order, harmony, and a touch of style. From my years in retail to managing Airbnb spaces, I’ve developed a keen eye for detail and a knack for creating spaces that people love to be in.

I’d love your support as I embark on this exciting new journey! 🚀 If you or someone you know could use a helping hand in decluttering or organizing with an empathetic touch, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s make your space a reflection of your best self!

Thank you for being a part of my journey so far, and I can’t wait to create organized and inspiring spaces together! 🌈✨ #JennysOrganizedSpaces #NewBeginnings #ProfessionalOrganizer
